Guide to the Languedoc-Roussillon

The Pyrenees, the Camargue and the Mediterranean, the Languedoc-Roussillon offers visitors a beautiful mosaic of landscapes.

THE TREEHOUSE AND NEARBY ACTIVITIES

Domaine le Clos Saint-Amand is located in the heart of Languedoc-Roussillon, a tourist area rich in contrasts and diversity.

This is a region of contrasts, which evokes both the sea, with its 200 kilometres of coastline, and the landscape of the "causses", with its dry, rocky terrain. On the shores of the Mediterranean, the region boasts many monuments such as the famous Cathar castles, the city of Carcassonne (listed by UNESCO) and the cathedrals of Saint Pierre de Montpellier and Mende.

Béziers and the surrounding area

Tourism, sport, discovery, relaxation... add some variation to your holiday...

Béziers is a city offering numerous activities a very favourable location in the South of France. It is 70 km from Montpellier, 15 km from the beach and 50 km from the mountains. Crossed by the Orb river and the Canal du Midi (a structure designed by Paul Riquet in the 17th century), Béziers also has a very pleasant climate. With an average of 224 days of sunshine per year and an average temperature of almost 14°C, Béziers enjoys an ideal climate to enjoy the nearby Mediterranean beaches (Valras, Marseillan, Vendres, Cap d'Agde etc.). Stroll along the Canal du Midi or discover the wild beauty of the countryside and some of the many typical local villages. Located in the centre of the world's largest wine estate (Faugères, Saint-Chinian etc.), Béziers is also a growing economic and tourist centre. A southern city with much character, Béziers maintains a long tradition of festivals and shows, the main summer event being the Feria, which welcomes more than 1 million visitors over its 5 days, between the arena (circular track 54 m in diameter) and the allées Paul Riquet, a main street perfect for both leisure and shopping. Take advantage of your stay to discover the city's historical heritage, with a multitude of sites to see: the fountain of the titans, the ancient Roman arenas, the municipal theatre, the Poets' Garden (5 Hectares, classified as a historical site), Saint-Nazaire cathedral (13th-14th century) and the Biterrois museum, which recounts the history of the Biterrois region. From the banks of the canal, you will have a superb view of the Pont Vieux, an old bridge dating back to the 12th century. Not to be missed are the locks at Fonseranes, a set of 9 locks built in 1697, the most spectacular structure on the Canal du Midi.

The beaches

On the nearby Mediterranean beaches you will appreciate the mild climate and in summer you can of course also experience the joys of swimming and various water sports.

Gastronomy

Various itineraries will allow you to discover the individual wineries and properties that produce high quality wines, thanks to the exceptional sunshine, the diversity of soils and the perfectionism of the local winegrowers. Traditional markets, local festivals, Camargue races and férias are held throughout the year.

Discover our beautiful towns and villages

In the surrounding area, there are many famous sites to discover: Aigues Mortes and its ramparts, Montpellier with its historic centre (Place de la Comédie, St Jean Cathedral, the oldest medical school in Europe, Arc de Triomphe, Antigone district of the architect Ricardo Bofill), Carcassonne with its magnificent city and its ramparts, the village of St Guilhem-le-désert set in its rocky landscape and Nîmes, with its Roman remains (the Maison Carrée, the Arenas), the Pont du Gard (Roman aqueduct). Towards Palavas les Flots, the remains of the cathedral of Maguelone rising up from the surrounding lowlands, the only witness to a long-disappeared city... Béziers is served by the airport Béziers-Cap d'Agde and is also close to the Spanish border.

You can also explore the nearby Camargue and its Natural Park, a wilderness rich in characteristic flora and fauna: pink flamingos, egrets, bulls and the famous Camargue horses, along with Les Saintes Maries, a sacred place of pilgrimage for gypsies and travellers. Between mountains and forests, the Cévennes National Park welcomes both people and animals. In this region, Gévaudan wolves and Sainte Eulalie bison have been reintroduced and are presented to the public in their natural environment, such as the Belvedere des Vautours, the Cité des Oiseaux et les Loups de Carcassonne. With such a varied natural environment, sports and leisure activities are inevitably oriented towards nature. Golf, caving, skiing, hiking, canoeing, climbing and fishing are just some of the opportunities available to indulge your passions as well as to discover some most spectacular landscapes.
